To be perfectly honest, I was thinking about getting the PSN version of it, since that's where I have the Genesis collection, and I have a Street Fighter pad on the PS3 that is strikingly similar to the Genesis six button controller.

Ugh. I wish the Wii would let you download demos. I really want this but I will feel like a giant tool if I blow $15 and it ends up sucking. I'll just wail until Wednesday.

Stupid Sega. Going third party and making me buy your games on other systems. I'LL NEVER FORGIVE YOU.

This is a very strange game. It feels like a Saturn or Dreamcast game from a parallel universe. It does not "feel" AT ALL like the 16-bit games, and the homing attack ruins it a little. I like the music, graphically it's nice, though I really really really miss the classic character designs.
This is not Sonic 4. This is New Super Mario Bros. Sonic style. It's a nice homage, but definitely not the real thing. Ridiculously embarrassing expectations aside, this IS the best Sonic game since the '90s and worth every penny. For all our little hedgehog has been through over the last decade, Sega is on the right track, and I commend them for that.
Sonic the Hedgehog 4 Episode 1 gets 3 out of 5 cans of Sonic pasta.

I think the "puzzle" in Lost Labyrinth Zone Act 2 is broken.

Would it have killed them to add ONE more zone? A crappy snow level or something would have been nice. If it weren't for the Chaos Emeralds and time attack mode, this would have almost zero replayability.
I really hope we don't have to wait a year for episode 2...

So Alex, how does it control? I'm guessing you're playing the Wii version, just curious if the CC works well.

I bought the PS3 version. I still don't like Sonics animations, and the music is pretty bad and I would have preferred if they left the homing attack out of it. But over all, it's a well made game in the the vein of 16 bit platformers. I enjoy it, but I think it's more of a nostalgia enjoyment than a real "THIS GAME IS GOOD" enjoyment. Which is a-okay with me.

So Alex, how does it control? I'm guessing you're playing the Wii version, just curious if the CC works well. Bad news, Nick. You can only play it with the Wii remote, held horizontally. This really pisses me off, because I love the classic controller's d-pad. If you have a choice about it I would NOT buy the Wii version because it doesn't even support widescreen. You NEED a widescreen TV to play this on, otherwise you're gonna have to take a guess with most of your jumps. Other than that, it controls like a dream. The physics are a little off when compared with the Genesis games. My only real complaint is the absurd amount of speed boosters. You will encounter one (approximately) every five seconds. Literally. This is an AWESOME entry in the Sonic Advance series. Sonic the Hedgehog 4? No. Absolutely not. Really? I like the music. In the first encounter with Eggman, I could SWEAR they used a song from Pee-wee's Playhouse. If I have time, I may go through my box sets. I swear to god they took a song from that show.

I'm sort of a gaming music guy, I have a few soundtracks and everything. Hell, I own a Genesis record on VINYL that I bought from Australia. And believe me when I tell you this Alex, using the custom soundtrack feature on my PS3 version fixed one of the many problems I had with the game.

i quite honestly think this game is horrible.

Don't be ridiculous, it's not horrible. It's playable, and that fact alone is a miracle. Sonic '06 makes Sonic 4 look like Super Mario World. Obviously there are flaws. It's WAY too short, the physics are off, the enemy placement is questionable, Lost Labyrinth Zone act 2 is a mess. When episode 2 is released, maybe it will make a little more sense. I'm trying to stay in the mindset of a kid in the 90s that would have thought this game was THE shit, and it would have been back then.

But it cost 12 pound for at best a 50 minute game, the physics are horrid, you can't get up to any form of speed because the moment you do you come to halt because of like you said, horribly placed enemies, the homing attack is way off and the final boss drove me up the wall.

I'm saving my final judgment for when the other episodes are available, because like I said, maybe it will make sense then. I'm assuming Tails and Knuckles will be playable later, perhaps these stages had to be designed with them in mind (if they're going the S3&K route).
I had no problems defeating the final boss. The only problems I had were, I died a bunch of times in Casino Street Zone act 2 because of those stupid flipping cards, and the torch puzzle in Lost Labyrinth Zone act 2 was so unnecessary and out of place. I spent about two hours trying to figure it out, it was sheer luck that I was able to pass it.
Right now I'm going back trying to get all the Chaos Emeralds. It is a fantastical pain in the ass. I've always hated the Sonic 1 special stages, but this is fucking ridiculous.

But yeah, the enemy placement confounds me. I think they don't want you building up any speed because a lot of people are saying, "DURRR SONIC WASN'T ABOUT SPEED IT WAS ABOUT EXPLORING." Which is half true. Beginning with Sonic Adventure, we started seeing this trend of RUN AS FUCKING FAST AS YOU CAN! The 16-bit games struck a balance here.
Sonic Team (whoever the hell they are now) have no idea what they're doing. They've been listening to fans for the last ten years, they have not one iota of respect for the series or any sense of creative thinking anymore. This is why we saw Shadow with a gun (and the character of Shadow in the first place) and the monstrosity of a crapfest known as "Sonic the Hedgehog" for the 360 and PS3. Now they've started listening to the pretentious Genesis/Mega Drive fans, and they still can't do anything right.
Sonic Team has degenerated into what essentially amounts to a focus group. You could argue that's what they were to begin with, but more and more I'm reminded of this...

I honestly thought that the game was broken whilst i was doing that puzzle, there was absolutely no need for it to be there.
And i wouldn't of had a problem with the final boss, but at times it was just really cheap, and there was no way to learn it as it was random pretty much every encounter.
the time limit on the bonus levels takes away the fun from them too.
I died copious amounts from the grasshoppers on the final stage when running on the cogs aswell, i hadn't felt anger like that singe mega man 9.

The music isn't really THAT bad. It's nothing I would listen to by itself, but it gets the job done. Casino Street is pretty terrible though...
