The difference between Double Dash and 64 is like night and day. If you get a chance to play it, try to overlook Mario Kart 64's graphics. It hasn't aged well at all. It looks especially worse on the VC for whatever reason, I can tell a difference between that and the original cart.

And I'm going to assume you've played the original Super Mario Kart. If not

Maybe this game really will come out on time. *is shocked*
Nintendo better have a kickass E3 this year then. I really don't know what else to look forward to from them. I'm hoping for some new franchises finally.

Well, the English gent that works at Gamestop told me that it's already totally done but because Nintendo isn't allowed to flood their own market they had to wait until Q2 '08.......

I don't know which one I played, all I know is that the only time I've played it was in Disneyland.

Snaking Removed.
The second big difference (in Mario Kart Wii compared to the rest of the series) is the removal of snaking. Ever since the N64 game, practically every Mario Kart game has included the ability to get a speed boost by waggling the controls left and right as you powerslide. This has finally been scrapped, and now your speed boost is determined by how long you can hold the slide.

You can be a certain unexpected Kong is this game. Way out of left field...and I like it.

Yeah, and yet DK Jr. is still missing in action. I don't care what bullshit story that Otacon spoon fed us, or Rare has tried to create, their stories DO NOT add up when you break them down. I don't know what you are hiding Nintendo, but I'll figure it out.

Who gives a shit about the battle mode? The online for this game is damn near perfect, but it's such a bitch to stay in first place that it's actually anger inducing. Ninty should really lower the rate of being able to get a blue shell, i got hit by 3 blue shells and 6 reds in one fucking match, apart from that, this game is perfect, and the wii wheel works like a charm.

Battle mode is was the best thing Mario Kart 64 had going for it, Battle mode is source of many, MANY parties. It's really the best multiplayer mode, but forcing you into a team based situation is really lame.

Every copy of the game comes with the wheel right? The guy at GameCrazy yesterday tried to scare me into preordering it there and said you only get the wheel if you preorder.

Got my early rental and played it for a couple hours.
Online mode is a blast. It feels much less chancy than the regular GP mode against the computer. I got first like 5 times out of the 8 or so I played so that was pretty unexpectedly awesome. I think it tells you what control type your using (Wii Wheel icon) but that might just be a standard. I'm using the Wavebird.
Retro courses have a facelift but retain the feel they had before. Hard to explain but they look much nicer while having the same flat kind of textures. I love the SNES Ghost House.
The game does have many faults that hold it back. No more hop. The automatic turbo boost is either so minor that I've missed it or I just can't seem to pull it off properly. Either way I miss the way it used to be. Items feel more nagging than they do anything else. You'll get hit with a blue shell and lightning bolt like at least 5 times a race. Doesn't do much in 50CC but I still wish they'd make those items more rare. Definitely feels like they made this one to cater more towards the '4everyonelolz' audience but it has enough heart to make it fun for all of us who have been playing MK for years. Just nagging issues and the unexplained dropping of 2-player GP.
I hear it gets inexcusably bad in 150CC as far as rubberband catch up and items goes. Haven't got that far yet.
But I mean it's Mario Kart and it's definitely fun. Better than Double Dash. All the online features, time trial ghost data, lagless online play, ranking points etc. really do boost this game's replay value.

I wish I was pumped up to get this, but I'm just not. That's not to say I won't get it, but there is just something about it that doesn't have me all excited, probably because Mario Kart DS is "good enough" for now.

Same here. To be honest I didn't really think Mario Kart DS was all that great. Playing online with friends was awesome but forget about playing strangers and I really didn't like the way karts controlled. I used to really love this series but in my opinion they haven't and probably will never outdo Super Mario Kart.

Scratch that: you can hop. I guess automatic gimps the game because you can't do a speed boost and I believe you can't do a hop there. I switched to manual.
