I used to only use magazines for games news up until right around the time MGS2 came out. I started reading IGN's forums. People kept talking about some "Raiden" guy and rumors were going around that Snake wasn't playable in the main portion of the game. With that knowledge in mind it wasn't any where near as shocking during the Plant chapter when some young priss is being called "Snake".
"Did you say nerd? "Not nerd. Node!"
Worst. Introduction to character. Ever.
But I'm in the minority that like Raiden. Good contrast from Snake.

2008 Game of the Year Confirmed. I suppose that means you're playing it, Double J? It would be neat if you reviewed it on your website and allowed me to link to it.

Oh you can bet your sweet little chinky ass I'm reviewing it on the main site. Both it and MGOnline. Leaps and bounds ahead of GTAIV.

I feel for the GTA4 hype. I ended up selling it recently for retail price ($60).

I still like GTAIV, but that's just it, I like the franchise. It's well done, but for a game that strives on it's sheer size, it's too shallow to maintain any sort of enjoyment out of it.

^ Me opening the package/describing its contents.
---------------
The game feels much different than the others. I mean it's still MG but you can tell they tried to change it up this time around. Octocamo is freakin' sweet. As is the music and pretty much everything, really.
One thing that caught me by surprise is the order of events. I won't spoil anything - I haven't got far enough to really dish out anything major - but let's just say you're totally clueless at the beginning.
There are a TON of new weapons so far for a MG game.
The start-up download was pretty neat. For those that wish to know it's just Snake smoking and some advice displayed to the side. Better than a static picture I guess.
One thing I noticed about the cutscenes is that they've done a tremendous job syncing it from what I noticed. Also, the way their face moves along with their lips makes it seem more natural.
Not used to the lack of non-firearm FPS yet. I like the new aiming system.
iPod is a bitch to control. I'll get the hang of it. So you can put your own music on there or just the stuff pre-loaded/downloaded? I assume if you can its later on in the game.
Glad to see it finally here. Anyone find the headset? Nobody in my area had it. One place had the limited guide.

Same here. And using X to confirm things instead of the traditional O is mega confusing.

I only played for about 15 minutes last night, but I was too tired to keep playing. I was trying to sneak, then got seen and killed pretty quick.

There are parts where it seems trying to be stealthy can just get you into more trouble.

This game is absolutely nuts and amazing.
I played for 14 hours straight. I NEVER play games for over 5-6 hours. My jaw had to be surgically put back in place after the EVA thing.

Just wondering, is it a big necessity to play Sons of Liberty before I start 4? Like do I miss anything significant story wise or is it just that nothing really big happens and like I can always go back to it because I wont miss anything?

Well, to be honest, I have played through all of the games, although it has been a while, and there are points where I still feel lost.

Well, if you've NEVER played MGS2 then yeah, you should play through it, or at least read up on it, since they share many of the same characters and is the introduction to the Patriots and what they are about and there are a few plot points you should likely know.

I finished chapter 2 last night. Man, I am loving this game so far. I've heard people complain about the Laughing Octopus battle, but I didn't have a problem with it.

Yes, but you're not a good barometer for difficulty since you didn't find the NES Ninja Gaiden difficult.

Hmm...Perhaps. I dunno, I just kept shooting her when she appeared, and used the night vision to find her when hiding. I only used two rations.

One of the easiest final boss battles ever but overall a really good story that you can have fun with. I think I have beaten it something in the neighborhood of 6-7 times and I still have fun. Mostly because it allows you to sneak up on people, steal their dogtags, shoot them in the dome and get "the reach" something Snake Eater didn't allow.

Didn't have a problem with Octopus. That was actually a really good, fun boss battle.
Wolf, on the other hand....
I'm at the start of Act 5 now.
