"Merry Christmas."
I enjoyed the demo. Usually, I have to adjust sensitivity settings, but the default sensitivity settings work. The controls feel more refined than Team Fortress 2. I think they tweaked the dead spot. I appreciate the intelligence of the computer controlled teammates. They heal you when you need it and save your ass when you're hanging from some zombie tongue like some zombie hunting Tarzan. And friendly fire isn't as bothersome as I imagined it would be. I assume it's due to the competent AI. Left 4 Dead is reminiscent of the Flash game titled the Last Stand. Coincidentally, it feels like an arcade game. Now, that's not a detriment, just a comment on its feel. I enjoyed the demo and look forward to eventually buying Left 4 Dead.

I watched the 1UP Show hands-on. While I now want it more than I did a week ago, I think it's not worth the initial 60 dollars. From what I gather, Left 4 Dead is a very short game, but the AI director adds replay value because it changes things per play-through. What sparked my interest was looking at the game through the eyes of a zombie. Playing as a zombie looks like a ton of fun.

I just finished the demo and I'll be buying this for sure when it comes out.
I think I'm alone on that I would much prefer a short game to a long game. I don't have the time/attention span to spend more than 6-8 hrs on a game. That's probably why I'm only about halfway through Dead Space and haven't even opened Fallout 3 yet, but I finished Gears of War 2 which I bought after both of those games.

True, true. I agree that Left 4 Dead does not need a lengthy campaign. If I were a PC gamer, I would absolutely get this for the PC. Valve's persistent, free updates for Team Fortress makes me wish Microsoft would be less greedy bastards.

I wasn't necessarily singling out Left 4 Dead as a game I'd want to be short I just ment games in general. I just don't have the interest in playing any video game, campaign wise, for that long.

I love short campaign games, 6-8 hours is perfect for me. There are some games that truly deserve the massive campaign time and others that don't. Call of Duty 4 had a perfect length campaign. And I love, love, LOVE FarCry 2, but the 20 hour single player campaign is fucking nuts.

Has anyone here picked this up and want to play this weekend? I've picked it up already, but haven't even bothered to play it because I want to play with other people and I'm not too fond of random jackasses from the interwebs.

Call me a cheap ass gamer, but I wait for a price drop. If Valve releases DLC on a regular basis, as they indicated, I would prefer to pay, say, 40 bucks for the game, then 20 bucks for the DLC. That is a lot more reasonable to me.

This game is godly when playing with other people. It'd would have been better if the other two guys didn't suck so bad, Ben

That was the most fun I've had in a while. I think the guy was either playing with his son or someone that is definitely mentally challenged. He couldn't do simple things like stay with the pack so he constantly died. On the last level I just said 'fuck it' and healed myself up with a health pack and took his health pack for later. I wasn't wasting it on him.

It's really one of the most satisfying game playing experiences. I just wish I knew why we couldn't get a game going with just us. I can't wait to play a different level, I've played the hell out of that final showdown alone and it's impossible. Next time, I'm choosing one of the others.

That's the first time I've played it, but it's freaking brutal. Once you kill the tank you think 'Oh thank God we're done' and you couldn't be any more wrong. This really is the ultimate strategy game because there is no way in hell you're going to just wing it and come out alive. We had a good thing going it's just a shame the other two couldn't hold up their end of the bargain.

That last go around was retarded. The game would be a lot easier if that one guy would have just fucking kept up with the pack and didn't shit around and actually help us out when needed it. We pretty much had to rely solely on one another. We had the strategy down pat too.

I love how utterly random the creature placement is. We played that last level, what? 5 times? The zombies where never in the same places twice.

We pretty much had to rely solely on one another. We had the strategy down pat too. Yeah, during the last two go-arounds I didn't even bother saving them. I would only help you if you were in trouble. During the second try, the damn Tank threw me off the building the first time, I was stuck in the room with the Tank and the dude with no mic and he just stood there as the Tank was crushing me. He didn't fire a single bullet and I was almost full health. That really pissed me off and that's when I started stealing his health packs. If we had two competent players we would have made it out of there no problem. Even with those two I think we might have made it if we gave it another two or three tries. We had a solid system getting to high ground. The random creature placement was awesome. On the last try we basically ran through the halls without seeing a single zombie and then once we hit the ladders they were just coming down in spades. Awesome friggin' stuff.

This is the kind of game I'm looking for in terms of online gameplay. I'm not much of an online gamer, and I don't like the sort of skill required when it comes to shooters like CoD. It's simple enough, but you can't just go blistering through the halls and not expect to pay for it. I love it and can't wait to get a party going again.
Fuck the Witches.
Fuck the tanks.
FUCK those god damn Boomers
And FUCK those FUCKING hunters.

I bought L4D on Black Friday at GameStop for 50 bones instead of utilizing Amazon.com's deal of 40 bones because I have store credit at GameStop.
This will be fun, I imagine.

L4D has infected it's way into my heart, turned me into a Boomer, and I'm vomiting bile of infected happiness.
It's now in my top 10 of 2008.

This game is amazing. A-mazing. Playing with eight people you know in Versus mode is orgasmic. The co-op campaign is fantastic. Holy crap!
OK, back to the game. XD

I meant seven people (as I would be one of the eight).
---
I would be okay with companies developing more co-op-focused games, in the same vein as Left 4 Dead. L4D is perhaps my favorite multiplayer game this year. Speaking of which, when is the Crossing coming out? I expect it will also be amazing.

I beat the No Mercy campaign on Normal today and it was a boatload of fun. It just goes to show how terrible those two people are that J.J. and I were playing because I was able to beat it with three mildly competent computer players.

Yeah, those two guys were TERRIBLE. Versus is such a great mode. I think co-op is better, but Versus, being able to play as a Boomer or a hunter is just straight up amazingness.
