Fetch the GTFO picture for yourself. I'm late for the Alex bashing, sorry J.J. You're NOT defending Mike Scully are you? Yes, yes I am, for these words alone: BUY ME BONESTORM OR GO TO HELL! I love that episode as well as Lisa on Ice and Two Dozen and One Greyhounds. Bite me.

I am late to this party, but I enjoyed the movie and I can explain why in two words 'Albert Brooks'. A. Brooks as he's normally credited is easily the best guest star that they have ever had and the Hank Scorpio character might be my favorite character of all time.
J.J. nailed it too with the downtrend of The Simpsons. I think it all started to fall apart in the tenth season.

Mags you're right. I've maintained for years that the Simpsons hit its stride in the 3rd season, and after season 10 began its downslide. But that in-between period was fantastic. Probably about the funniest consistent television of my lifetime.
I don't really know what pressured them into the direction change they had with their humor...was it an overreaction to the success of Family Guy? An increasing desire to stay 'current' with overloading of guest stars and more topical joke material? I don't really know; all I know is that the characters are characatures of themselves now. The show lacks all of the things that made it funny in the first place, in my opinion.
Plus one for Hank Scorpio btw. That whole episode ranks in my top ten.

It was definitely showing signs of going to hell during the ninth season. I can't even watch season ten all the way through like I can the others. I think the eighth season was the last consistently good season.
Hank Scorpio should have been in the movie.

Anyone agree that Bart on the Road might be the best episode ever? I could watch it like ten times in one sitting and still find it hilarious each time.

It's going to take a lot to drag me away from my pick for #1: the NRA episode.

Anyone agree that Bart on the Road might be the best episode ever? I barely remember that one to be honest. I could think of about 20 off the top of my head that I enjoyed more. Some Enchanted Evening will always be my favorite.

Bart on the Road had some great interaction between Bart, Milhouse, Martin and Nelson. I love when Milhouse gets a lot of screentime since he is perhaps my favorite character. Maybe I just love it because of the Tennessee bashing but it's a fantastic episode.
Some Enchanted Evening was great but the animation was horrific. Did you see the original version of it on the DVD with the commentary track with Matt Groening and Jim Brooks basically cutting their wrists in the background? God I love season one Simpsons.

I always remember as a kid I would just lose it when Nelson throws Flipsy out the window. Primarily because the local Fox affiliate would invariably cut to commercial way too soon, so all you'd hear was a single "HA!" before it switched. God that is a great episode, I will agree.
B...but there's another world's fair coming soon, right? Uh....before Friday?

I love Homer Goes To College, personally. But King Size Homer, Homer at the Bat, Marge Vs. The Monorail, and Last Exit to Springfield are all tops.

Shit, I forgot about Homer at Bat. And the first 5 or 6 Treehouse of Horror episodes were personal favorites.

My top episides, no order are Bart Gets an F, Flaming Moe's, The Way We Was, Homer vs. Lisa and the 8th Commandment, Lemon of Troy, Bart Sells His Soul, Bart of Darkness, Mother Simpson, A Milhouse Divided, Bart on the Road, 22 Short Films, I could go on. And I really love all of season one, mostly for nostalgia reasons. There were some really quality episodes though.

No offense but I don't get how people can be fans of season one. IMO they were trying too hard to be like a traditional sitcom at that stage and the animation and voice acting wasn't there yet.

Go fuck yourself, Calvin. Season one was great. Yes the animation was awful. Yes the voices are off. This is why I love it. It has more charm than any other season. It wasn't any more of a traditional sitcom than it is today. Back then it was essentially The Bart Show. Personally I enjoy Bart episodes more than Homer episodes. And back then Homer was actually a dad, not just a cheap excuse for a cute line. I will defend season one to my grave.

Oh and Simpsons Roasting on an Open Fire, Bart the General, Moaning Lisa, Life on the Fast Lane, Krusty Gets Busted and Some Enchanted Evening are absolute classic episodes and they could have been done in the season three-eight era had they been slightly modified. But as they are, they are perfect, imperfect as they are. If that makes sense.

Yeah I agree with you there. The animation from season one was very limited and the voice acting, particularly Homer, is hard to listen to. I think the issue mentioned with the old episodes from season one is the opposite of the problems that the show is having now. They're trying too hard to not be a sitcom and be more of a straight cartoon.

I like one or two episodes, but since owning it, I haven't watched season 1 since the initial purchase. I just don't really enjoy watching any of them except for a handful.

Did anyone watch season one when it initially aired? I did, so maybe that's why I have a soft spot for it. Actually I prefer Homer's Walter Matthau voice to be honest.

I not only watched Season 1 when it aired, but also remember watching the shorts when it was part of the Tracy Ullman show. I'm not a huge fan of season 1, but Bart the General, and There's No Disgrace Like Home are the two I have the fondest memories of.

I just VAGUELY remember watching the Tracey Ullman show, my earliest memories possibly. If they released all the Simpsons shorts on DVD or even the whole Tracey Ullman show I would buy them in a heartbeat.

Really? I kind of assumed the shorts would be part of the DVD releases. Odd that they haven't done that.
