I'm reading the first volume of The Lord of the Rings. I saw the movies years ago prior to reading the books, and I'm already noticing some substantial differences from the book and the movie. Not that it takes away from either of the two formats, it's just interesting to see what was changed and left in for the movie.

I'm reading Dr. Drew Pinsky's The Mirror Effect. It's about the sociological impact of our obsession about celebrity and the effect that celebrity narcissism has on not only their lives, but our own society. And I finally got around to reading Scott Pilgrim Volume 5. But that's a comic book

And I finally got around to reading Scott Pilgrim Volume 5. But that's a comic book I'm about halfway through Volume 2 and I'm really digging it. I love how the story takes place in Canada because I get to pick up small little things that only Canadians would get. It's cool to see them actually using real businesses that exist, Shopper's Drug Mart, Second Cup, etc. plus the story is pretty entertaining so far. The one thing I thought would keep me from enjoying the book was the art style, but it seems to work well with the material.

I blame him for some of that obsession, Sober House was so damn good. Anyways, I'm about 60 pages (started it around 5am this morning) into a book by Jillian Michaels about the effects that hormones have on your metabolism. Sounds boring but it's actually very interesting.

I am reading through Invincible (the comic series). I read volumes 1-5 a few years back, and I just bought 5-10. SO I am going to re-read it all.

I just hope to god there isn't a god awful wait between 5 and 6 With the movie coming out by the end of the year, I suspect they'll either coincide, or it'll push it back deep into next year

I just finished Vince Flynn's "Act of Treason."
Pretty standard fare from him, but that's not necessarily bad. Mitch Rapp kicks some people's ass, tortures a confession out of a Bosnian, and gets revenge for a political killing on US soil. The only downside was that at the end they began plotting to kill Stu Garret, one of my favorite nemesis characters throughout Flynn's books.
I enjoy reading VF's books because he's a Minnesota guy and he combines the more concise storytelling of John Grisham with the technical know how and political/military intrigue of Tom Clancy.

It's hilarious. It's composed like something you would pick up in the school library, big letters and no description or anything on the back of the book, but Swartzwelder is the best Simpsons writer, and this book showcases that.

I just finised The Chris Farley Show: A Biography in Three Acts on the plane ride to and from Vegas. Fantastic book for any Farley fan. It really gives some insight into who he was as a person and his struggle with drugs and alcohol. You can't help but feel for the guy.
I recently started Artie Lange's Too Fat to Fish.

I am reading The Melancholy Of Haruhi Suzumiya novel. It's the book that inspired the manga and anime series. I'm such a god damn geek.

I've been reading "The Wind-Up Bird Chronicles" becuase of Joystiq's Chris Grant's recommendation and I have to say it is pretty crazy but awesome aswell. After e-mailing Chris if there were any other books he would recommend he said Jonathan Strange and Mr. Norell which I'll probably be reading next.

I just finished up 'Fast Food Nation' by Eric Schlosser which was a pretty entertaining read. I'm actually debating on which book to start next as I bought a bunch of Hunter S. Thompson books recently.
It'll be one of the following:
Hell's Angels The Rum Diary Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas Kingdom of Fear

Fear and loathing is his best book, IMO and I'm not just saying that because the movie kicked 8 kinds of ass...it was my favorite to read.
I'm currently going back through my whole David Sedaris collection and re-reading them. I'm starting with my perennial favorite of Me Talk Pretty One Day.

I've had reservations about reading Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas just because of how awesome it is. I think I might go with chronological order of the books I have just for shits and giggles.

The one i read was whem john clark was the leader of a elite squad that helped around europe. You read Rainbow Six. I've read all of Clancy's books and I think the best were the three that make up his magnum opus story-arc. The first is Debt of Honor, then read Executive Orders and follow that with The Bear and the Dragon. Together they chronicle a really well-written series of events and trace the development of the Jack Ryan character quite well. The story gets relatively complex but it's never inaccessible. If you want more background on Ryan I guess I'd suggest some of his earlier work like Patriot Games, Clear and Present Danger, Cardinal of the Kremlin etc. but I think his best work was the three-book series I listed above. EDIT: Just for reference...in terms of the Clancy universe, Rainbow Six actually occurs in between Executive Orders and Bear and the Dragon, but focuses on Clark and Chavez rather than Ryan and his associates.
