I watched The Incredibles for the first time last night. After everyone hyping it up, I was a bit underwhelmed. The story was pretty good but I thought that the two hour run time was just a little bit too much. Mr. Incredible was easily the best character, with Syndrome coming in second. I didn't feel connected to the others at all really. To be honest, I liked Ratatouille better and The Incredibles ranks lower then both Toy Stories for me too but it is better then Cars. I'm watching Monsters Inc for the first time tonight and maybe Finding Nemo as well just to catch myself up on the Pixar stuff.
The Incredibles gets a 7/10 from me. Better then average but nothing spectacular.
I have been on a streak of watching like, a movie a night. I'm going to do a quick rundown of everything I've watched in the last 2-3 weeks.
Clerks 2: Just a really fun comedy, one of my favorite Askewinverse movies. Probably my 3rd or 4th favorite Kevin Smith film, 8/10.
Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou: I've raved about this movie so much and I never get tired of it. One of my favorite movies of the last 5 years because it has so many funny moments and by the end you just really care about Steve. Plus, it has one of my favorite endings to a movie in while, 9/10.
Gangs of New York: Wow, I can't believe it took me this long to watch this movie. The run time just flies by and it has some of the best acting I have seen from Leo Dicaprio and Daniel Day Lewis as Bill the Butcher. I think this is my 3rd favorite Scorsese film behind Goodfellas and The Departed, and I might like it better then those two movies, 10/10.
Rushmore: Damn, this movie has some funny lines from Bill Murray. I liked it, as I do with a lot of Wes Anderson's movies but it just wasn't all there for me even though I still enjoyed it, 8/10.
Rounders: Matt Damon kicks ass as Mike McD and this is another movie that I probably have in my top 20 movies just because all the acting is good and the story kicks ass as well. Plus, Damon is outstanding and any movie where I like Ed Norton is good, 9/10.
Breakfast Club: Love it, I could watch it like 50 times in a row without tiring of it. All time classic, 9/10.
Good Will Hunting: See above, 9/10.
Ghostbusters: I like it and Murray really puts the movie on his back with great one liners all the way though. I hadn't watched it in a while and it still made me laugh a ton, 8/10.
Live Free or Die Hard Unrated: A little bit better with a couple of f-bombs here and there and compared to the other shit that came out this summer, it was great. Justin Long just sucks though, I can't stand him luckily Bruce Willis does enough badass things in this movie to make up for it, 7/10.
Bourne Identity: I still can't decide if I like this one or Ultimatum better but this is definitely one of the better action movies of the last 8 or so years, especially that car chase scene. I need to watch Supremacy again...9/10.
Lethal Weapon: One of the 80s best action movies. It is so funny and Mel Gibson is soooo awesome as Riggs. This is another movie that I hardly ever tire of watching, just a classic, 9/10.
Lethal Weapon 2: On par with the original, I thought having the people in this one killing his wife was a little much but other then that, it is pretty awesome, 8/10.
Lethal Weapon 3: Ugh, the one where Riggs starts settling down. This I am not a fan of but he still has enough badass moments to not drag down the film that much. Plus, it had Rene Russo before she cut up her face and turned unattractive, I still thought the story was a bit weak though, 6/10.
Lethal Weapon 4: Yeah, I cranked all these out last week. I think I like this one more then 3 because Chris Rock is a pretty good addition to the cast and it has mother fucking PING!!! Also known as the cutest asian kid in any movie of all time, 7/10.
Big Fish: I forgot how much I enjoy this film. It is a little long at around 2 hours but the story and the scenery are top notch because it was directed by a man who knows his backgrounds in Tim Burton. I generally like Burton's work so it is no surprise I liked this one as well but it drags at times, 7/10.
I couldn't believe how much I liked Life Aquatic when I first saw it. I watch it like once a month almost. Just a nice, easy going movie with some real heart at the end. Plus, it is awesome as a dry humor movie, I think my buddy and I quote Life Aquatic more then almost any other movie.
Wow, this movie was downright amazing. Russel Crowe and Christian Bale delivered quite the performances. Russel Crowe's subtext at times was downright sinister, I absolutely love his character he went through quite the transformation throughout the movie. Christian Bale was a man in desperate needs for money, and would literally sacrifice anything to get it and this man had an honest soul. I was a big fan of the ending. Great movie all around, and I usually **** all over westerns. 9.5/10 -----------------
One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest
Why didn't I watch this movie before. This downright blew me away, Jack Nicholson is amazing if that word even covers it. This was a great movie that I think everyone should watch. But wow did it get depressing really fast in a heartbeat, one of the saddest movie endings in my opinion. Great movie, great cast, great directing, great everything.
The Weather Man: I always enjoy this movie because Nic Cage plays down trodden weather man Dave Spritz perfectly and it has a nice and easy flow to it. Michael Caine plays Cage's unimpressed father perfectly and you can tell that Cage is always striving for his approval. There are some sad moments but there are also so many damn funny moments in this one as well. Some of the things that Spritz says kill me especially since you learn throughout the course of the film that he is just a normal guy who happens to be on tv. He knows his job is completely pointless and that his personal life is a wreck but he just accepts it and it is nice to see his character come full circle by the end of the flick. I could have done without the subplot of his son being molested by his counselor but we got Nic Cage kicking ass out of it so that's a plus, it is also a little on the short side clocking in at like just over 90 minutes. Last but not least, the scenery of Chicago in the wintertime is awesome and the look of the film is great, 8/10.
I enjoyed this movie, great foil between Chris Cooper and Jason Bateman, Cooper being the all serious one, and Bateman the wiseass. Jamie Foxx always delivers a great performance, and it's just a pleasure watching the movies he's in, I thoroughly laughed my ass off when he said like "Does he know where Bin Laden is? That would be a huge promotion for me. ".
It was somewhat slow in the beginning, but it really picked up in the end and had me on the edge of my seat. I'd recommend this movie to anyone who likes a little good drama/action.
Charlie and the Chocolate Factory directed by Tim Burton
Ya know, this movie gets a lot of flack for not being like the original Gene Wilder classic but you know what? It isn't supposed to be, it is supposed to be closer to the book and it totally is. Burton has created a beautiful movie with great scenery (like usual) and he has cast some of his favorite actors (Johnny Depp especially and his girlfriend Helena Bonham Carter) and made a very entertaining movie. The main complaint about this movie has always been the acting of Depp as Wonka. Personally, he doesn't bother me in the least, and I think some of the things he says are down right hilarious and while his behavior is strange at times, that is the character that this movie called for and I think it works but I also think that only Depp could pull it off, which he did. I also have to give it up for Freddie Highmore, who I think was a better Charlie Bucket then the one in the original by leaps and bounds. Also, there was a reason that Deep Roy made a cool million bucks for being the Oompa Loompas in this movie, he is incredible and the songs are damn catchy. If I had one complaint in this movie, it would be the flashbacks of Wonka's childhood are kind of odd and out of place, but they feature Christopher Lee...so can they be all that bad? Overall, I liked this movie more then I remembered liking it, I still like the original more but they are completely different movies and should be judged individually.
I adore that movie, I never understood the flack it got. I love both movies, but they are completely different movies and I love them both for pretty much very different reasons.
Because people hate remakes of anything beyond like 1985. Especially movies from their childhood. Like I said, they are completely different movies and I like them both for completely different reasons.

I actually really hope Depp plays Pee-wee in the Pee-wee's Playhouse movie. I really think he could pull it off... at the very least he'd take the porn theater stigma off the franchise.
Bull Durham starring Kevin Costner, Susan Sarandon and Tim Robbins.
Ya know, I really liked this movie the first couple of times I watched it but when I watched it last night, I felt like it fell more flat to me. Don't get me wrong, there are some really funny moments in the movie but when they aren't on the baseball diamond, I just wasn't interested. I still feel that this is one of Kevin Costner's best roles as Crash Davis, the veteran catcher who they bring in to mold Tim Robbins, who is supposed to be the next great pitcher. When I watched this last night, I was unimpressed with the ending, and maybe that is why I didn't like it as much this time as the other times I have watched it. You know what is coming, but I felt the scene in the bar with Robbins and Costner was unneeded and while Costner being cut was pretty emotional the scene with him and Sarandon on the porch falls flat because they already had their payoff of that relationship when they slept together. Bull Durham tries to be too many things, a sports movie, a comedy, a romantic comedy and a drama and it just doesn't pull it off as well as I previously thought. Once again, there are some genuinely great moments in this one, but if you want a superior Costner baseball flick go with Field of Dreams and if you want a Costner baseball flick that is far worse, then rent For the Love of the Game.
I was pleasantly surprised by this movie. I didn't think I'd like it but I really did. It was the first movie with the Rock in it that I've seen and I thought he played the role well.

Scary...just scary.
I'm a fan of Felicity Huffman's work (from Desperate Housewives ) but she really annoyed me in the movie, I think it had to do with her voice.
Wow this movie blew me away, Russell and Kilmer were simply amazing... Kilmer more so. I am absolutely in love with Doc Holliday, Kilmer played that character so well and just everything he did was perfect. "You are a good woman. Then again, you may be the antichrist." that line was delivered so perfectly, I had to just rewatch that part again. Pretty sad and upbeat ending at the same time, Wyatt and Doc and Wyatt and Josephine. Also a kickass performance by Sam Elliot. As I said with 3:10 to Yuma, I usually hate Westerns, but I loved these two.
