I saw a rumor that said the controller will also double as a sensor bar for Wii games.

But would they just outright abandon the remote + nunchuk setup? To do so would feel like a gigantic leap backwards. As primitive as the technology seems now, the remote/nunchuk combo feels futuristic, in a campy mid-late 80s sense I guess, but there's still so much more they need to do with it. Besides, how awkward would it be to play something like Wii Sports Resort or Skyward Sword with basically a GameCube controller? My ideal solution would be a controller setup similar to the Wii, an improved, more ergonomic remote, with total 1:1 control but with a screen tacked on somewhere if they're so intent on doing that and a wireless nunchuk and a wireless classic controller packed in with the system. And a new R.O.B. And Floor Vision.

Nintendo officially confirmed today that they are, in fact, releasing a new piece of console hardware in 2012.
the controller screen should TOTALLY be 3D.

It'll be Nintendo's greatest console ever with like the best third-party support ever and first-party sequels people have been begging for forever like Earthbound. And it'll come out on December 22nd 2012.

I don't really know what to think about Project Cafe. Obviously I'm going to wait until we see some stuff at E3 before I get judgmental, but I've lost my faith in Nintendo (not so much in the hardware, but the software, specifically third parties). Once again, like with the N64 and GameCube, the Wii library was just not as awesome as the NES and especially the SNES. I'm also disappointed that we will probably never be wowed again by graphics like we were during the jump from the SNES to the N64.

Yeah, third party support needs to pick up with the cafe. I understand that the Wii wasn't as powerful as the PS3 or 360, but being asked to pay full price for incredibly nerfed versions of the same games was ridiculous. I almost positive in THQ's market research for the Wii was just a piece of lined notebook paper that had "Wii=Gramma's an Babies111" on it.

The more I think about this controller, I dunno. I trust the wizards at Nintendo will come up with something ingenious, but I LOVE the simplicity of the Wii. Just point and click, so simple yet so deep with the right games, and the Wii remote and nunchuk are so much more comfortable than a standard controller. I'm not sure how they will pull this one off, but I said the same thing about the DS and look at it now. I was convinced, even though I loved the concept that the DS would be a failure of Virtual Boy proportions. It just seems like they are gonna cram a lot of shit into this controller, which makes me feel uneasy about how the mass market might take it. If this one controller solves all of the problems of the absurd abundance of peripherals, I'm all for it.

I remember when I first saw pics of the N64 controller, I was convinced it was going to be uncomfortable and hard to use, but it quickly became one of my favorite controllers ever. I trust Nintendo as far as the controllers go, online play is another matter.

I remember thinking, "why didn't they just use the Virtual Boy controller?"
