This is easily the most overlooked Mario game ever, and I think it's right up there with Super Mario Bros. 3 and Super Mario World. Gunpei Yokoi was truly a genius. Exploding Koopas, superballs, the bonus levels, the submarine and airplane levels, and the MUSIC... god it was beautiful. I'm really surprised we haven't seen elements of this game pop up again in later Mario games. We need more exploding Koopas. And bring back Tatanga. I know Super Mario Land had a sequel, but it just wasn't the same at all. It's like the original just got buried after Wario took over the series. We need a proper WiiWare or DS remake/sequel whatever.

Awesome game. I still kinda think Wario Land was a bit better though.

Super Mario Land is the only handheld game I have ever lost.

It's practically unplayable now, but there's still a shit ton of potential for a Super Mario Advance style remake. Make it happen, Nintendo.

What is it with Nintendo, and their unwillingness to release GB games in collections?

They would rather sell you individual, overpriced ROMs.

Oh, right. I'm kinda surprised Metroid 2 hasn't been re-released in some other form. Or has it?

Not that I'm aware of. I'd say Nintendo's probably been saving these games for a DS virtual console. Though it'd be great to play these games again, I'm not sure if the originals are still as playable as they once were. They'd make more money if they just added some color and extra shit and sold them for $30 a pop.

I'm a little shocked that it hasn't popped up as an unlockable anywhere. Super Mario Land is certainly in the top 3 black and white Gameboy games. I still think Tetris and Donkey Kong '94 are better

How would they be unplayable?

Not entirely unplayable, but I've been spoiled since we've had portable SNES and even N64 games.

I'm pretty sure Alex just means that, when you go back to some of the EARLY Gameboy games, they are so primitive, that a lot of fun is zapped out of them. Most Atari games, while great in their day, are virtually unplayable because of how archaic they look and control.

Exactly. To go from playing Super Mario Advance 4 back to Super Mario Land feels really awkward.

Picture if you were able to unlock Metroid II on say, Metroid Prime 2. Could you imagine playing that game with the GC controller? Jesus.

Oh, I see what you're saying. Also, the location of the A and B buttons on the DS Lite are kinda shitty, instead of the little gap between them on the toaster GB.

I saw Mario land in an electronics store for 49 pence like last year

I don't know what the fuck a pence is, but I'm assuming that's dirt cheap

EB has it in their case of misfit Gameboy games for like two bucks. Apparently, no one wants a copy of Klax, no matter how cheap it is.

Tatanga is awesome. I wanted to see him in Brawl in some capacity.
Did anyone ever read the comic or whatever it was? I remember seeing Mario jump out of a Gameboy into the real world, but only vaguely.

Heh, remember the 3 little pigs in Mario Land 2? That was the most random shit ever.
The space level was a pain in the arse. I was in my mom's grocery card trying to play that level once. It ain't no Mario Galaxy, I'll say that much.
