Plucked from Nintendo's brain trust and tucked into the tail end of MTV's recent interview with Reggie Fils-Aime is the latest Wii channel concept: Nintendo Power. "We have a tremendous amount of old Nintendo Power content ... that we could present to consumers," Reggie told MTV.
The interview (the one where Reg dodges the "Where's Metroid?" question) doesn't delve further into the thought, leading us to believe the digital archive is a ways from fruition. Still, coupled with Virtual Console, a back catalogue could provide a valuable resource for those digging around for tips and strategies -- or just general information about games of yesteryear. And, of course, Nintendo is never one to underestimate the nostalgia factor, always eager to find another familiar to resell to old-timers -- that's assuming the archive would be pay-to-view. Would you subscribe (again)?www.joystiq.com/2007/02/18/next-wii-channel-could-be-nintendo-powerI'm not sure whether this is a good, or bad thing.

If it were free, it would be amazing. If I had to pay for the March 1992 issue of Nintendo Power again, then it would only be kinda cool.

Nintendo really has no business charging money for DIGITAL copies of a magazine that was rotting in peoples bathrooms 15 years ago.

And how does Nintendo expect us to store all this crap about six months from now? You can only have so many virtual console games, and useless channels on the Wii at once, and we have to use that crampy ass flash memory? What the hell?

Well, the console remembers what you bought, and I have several SD Cards lying around, so I'm comfortable with that.

But what if we have like 50 something downloaded games, and two pages of channels? That'd get pretty messy and unorganized after a while, and that's when I'd just prefer to have a bunch of old cartridges laying around. I want everything on the system at once. I'm hoping the solution to this problem will be some sort of USB flash drive that expands the Wii's internal memory somehow.

If NP were to make a jump to the Wii, I hope it's something like the News Channel, complete with page flipping sound effect used on the News Channel.
Pick A Year>Pick A Month>Flip Through Pages.

I'm worried they'll end up charging $5 an issue.

I'd probably end up buying the first 50 issues.

The only one I would download without thinking about it, is the 100th issue. I just about damn near wore my copy out.

I have a mint copy of the 50th issue, which is awesome because if I ever really need it, I can apply a Blanka and Legend of Zelda tattoo.
