Sooo just had another GC analog stick die on me. Basically what I'm talking about is when the stick gets permanently off center, and starts randomly moving shit around on its own. So far this has happened to two standard controllers, and now my Wavebird (which I bought in 2002, so it's had a good run).
It's not a big deal because I literally have about six brand new GC controllers still in their original packages. But still this worries me, since Nintendo just halted Wavebird production and supply of the corded controllers is bound to dry up after a while. How the hell do they expect us to play GC games/virtual console games/Smash Bros. with discontinued controllers? These things don't last forever. Somehow I don't think Nintendo really cares.
I actually called Nintendo when this happened the first time to my corded GameCube controller, and they told me it was a pretty common problem with analog sticks and they sent me another one, for free (and my warranty was out).
Has this happened to anyone else? If it hasn't by now, you either;
1. Don't play enough GameCube
or
2. You're in denial

I can honestly say I've never had a GC controller go out on me. And for a long stretch of time a few years back my GC was THE console I was playing.

I'm really careful with my shit too. I could understand if I was like 5 years old and beat the shit out of them. Maybe I'm too careful with my stuff. I'm really obsessive about that. I've probably cleaned it to death.

I've been using the same Spice controller since launch-ish. And my Wavebird came with my copy of Metroid Prime. I've never bought new controllers because old ones broke except for my NES.

All my NES/SNES controllers still work, but they do have d-pad issues. Years of wear and tear I guess. One of my SNES controllers has a worn out shoulder button. I actually had to tape the cord back on a third party Genesis controller. My N64 sticks are really loose, those are practically unplayable now. And weirdly enough, my original Dualshocks are in pristine condition, yet my Dualshock 2 looks like it's been in 'Nam or something. One stick sometimes gets off center, the X button has absolutely had it, you have to press the select and analog on/off buttons really hard to get them to work, and the R1 button occasionally falls inside the controller.

I've been using the same black N64 controller since Christmas '96 and never anything else and the joystick is just as great now as it was then. And I even played the ORIGINAL Mario Party that they had to create a protective glove for.

I remember a picture of a guy in Nintendo Power that had a giant blister on his palm because of that.

And I also have the black N64 controller. I still don't know why Nintendo didn't stay with the all black look of the Ultra 64, it looked so fucking cool.

Yeah, I love the whole "grayscale" look of the entire console. They should have kept that big thumbstick too

Hey, by 2000 Nintendo was being made a bitch, they would have done anything to keep themselves looking good.

I fucked up my hand trying to spin that stupid shyguy or whatever it was across the room. I still have a small rougher area on my palm from that damn game. If I only knew I could've owned the official Mario Party party glove I could've avoided that tragedy.
There was another game on Mario Party, might've been the rapids race one, that hurt me.

Only ever happened to me twice, but only with third party controllers, never the officials.

I have surprisingly soft skin Mario Party, and that god damn Shy Guy was just an evil torture device made by Nintendo.
